I learned only from bad films. When a young actor or writer came to me and asked "What can I do to learn to make films?" I was always in a mess because I didn't know what to tell them, So I asked myself how I learned. Now, when I looked at the good films, I was always a very good audience. I was never interested in who the actor was, who the director was or where the cameraman was. I lived with the film. I enjoyed it. It was an adventure. When I saw a lousy film there was something which made me say, "Wait a moment, this is not good, this I would have done differently". In my opinion, this is the only way I learned anything.
